Fish & lentil curry (Machali aur daal) from Chetna's 30 Minute Indian: Quick and Easy Everyday Meals (page 56) by Chetna Makan

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Any form white fish can be substituted for hake.

Very creamy and filling. Flavor is very good but the fish gets lost in the curry. Next time try sausage and add fresh or dried peppers with the onions.

I substituted brown mustard seeds for black. Hake isn't common around here, but TJ's had it frozen, which worked fine, although I had to remove the skin. The fish was super mild tasting, but fortunately the sauce had a lot of flavor. A more flavorful fish would probably be even better. This was delicious with the suggested spinach onion pulao.
