American barbecue sauce from Condiments: Make Your Own Hot Sauce, Ketchup, Mustard, Mayo, Ferments, Pickles and Spice Blends from Scratch (page 60) by Caroline Dafgård Widnersson

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

So yes, this should be called a "Kansas City" style BBQ sauce and it is a version that we really like. I appreciate the use of maple syrup in place of molasses and the mix of apple cider vinegar + lemon juice seems to tame the overwhelming tartness sometimes found in this type of sauce. I used a mix of sweet & hot smoked paprikas & then added hot sauce to taste. I can certainly see making this one again.
