Sloppy Joe from The Encyclopedia of Sandwiches: Recipes, History, and Trivia for Everything Between Two Slices of Bread (page 238) by Susan Russo

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Notes about this recipe

I’ve always wanted to find a Sloppy Joe “just like the one mom made” when I was growing up. I think this is close (if I remember back 50 years correctly!). I made as stated, but skipped the Tabasco sauce. The consistency was perfect - firm and moist with just the right amount of sauce, not loose and soupy. Good flavor. I didn’t have hamburger buns, so I served it on toasted pita bread. It made a great lunch, served with my own recipe for coleslaw.
