    My family thought these cookies were pretty mediocre (“like store-bought cookies, Mom”) and strangely “they don’t have much flavor.” The texture is weird for a cookie—cakey and chewy-tough, not chewy-gooey. So disappointing after browning the butter, making tangzhong, and waiting for 3 days to bake. Not nearly as good as I hoped for King Arthur’s recipe of the year.
