Kitchari (aka the belly cuddle) from Joyfull: Cook Effortlessly, Eat Freely, Live Radiantly (page 140) by Radhi Devlukia-Shetty

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Accompaniments: Cilantro-mint chutney

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Can substitute a blend of quinoa and basmati rice for basmati rice, and black mustard seeds for brown mustard seeds.

I made this when I was ill, as recommended in the book. It was nice and gentle and honestly a pretty good sick food. That being said, I would never cook or serve this normally - it's very bland, even with the chutney and yoghurt; and the only way I can describe the texture is slop-like. It's definitely gentle and nourishing, with the veg, beans and quinoa (if you go for that version) when you're unwell, but not something I'll be eating outside of sick days.
