Can substitute fresh oregano for fresh marjoram, and yellow split peas for green split peas. Recipe includes a vegan variation (omit bacon, use canola/safflower oil with liquid smoke or smoked paprika, and substitute vegetable stock for chicken stock) and a slow cooker method (cook on low for about 8 hours).
