    I loved the look of this cake for a Mother's Day treat for my 92 yo mother. I could not get polenta anywhere so I ended up making Melissa Clark's Lemon almond cake but subbed the glaze for that cake with this cake's topping. It felt very extravagant using 6 eggs but the cake also got shared with neighbors under quarantine and my mother's carers. It's definitely a special occasion cake - very rich. I skipped the syrup soaking, not a fan of that. The topping from this recipe was easy and very pretty.
