Melon stand from The PDT Cocktail Book: The Complete Bartender's Guide from the Celebrated Speakeasy by Jim Meehan and Chris Gall

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

I thought the cocktail was tasty but I didn't get much if any watermelon flavor out of it.

We liked this too. Would be a good cocktail for a summer barbecue-at least with my family!

Very pleasant and pretty summer cocktail. I liked the combination of flavors.

Thought this was very good. Well balanced with a slight and pleasant bitterness from the Aperol. Subbed Hendricks gin.

Melon in a cocktail does not particularly appeal to me but I was curious. Unfortunately, I did not care for the Melon Stand, a long drink with Plymouth gin, watermelon juice, lemon juice, aperol, simple syrup. It is not that it was especially bad; it was just a little one-note. I was hoping for some kind of surprise but it was not particularly interesting, the kind of drink that you get from the first sip and does not get better over time. It would probably work well for people who are afraid of Aperol though, in a way similar to the Introduction to Aperol.
