Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

    Thank you veronicafrance, I kind of followed your tip not to follow the recipe and stoned the greengages beforehand. But I decided not to faff about with the stones in muslin, and used preserving sugar for plums instead, and added lemon juice too, and it worked a treat!

    Don't follow the instructions to fish the stones out while the jam is boiling. Standing over a boiling pot of jam on a hot day doing this is not fun. Instead, halve and stone the greengages, tie the stones in a scrap of muslin, and suspend the bag in the jam.
