Muhallabieh from Jerusalem (page 274) by Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Can substitute vanilla pods for bay leaf.

Very easy dessert that you can make with items you likely have in your fridge or pantry. It does not taste like cornstarch, but it’s not very sweet or flavorful without the syrup. The syrup is quite nice.

Delicious! I didn’t have pistachios so I’ve used some thinly sliced almonds instead. I’d use less sugar next time. The syrup smells and tastes very nice. Curious to try other toppings

This is a very quick, easy and delicious recipe. Desiccated coconut and pistachios give this puddingy panna cotta-like dessert some crunch, while the bay leave syrup elevates this dish to something really special. A definite must cook for a Middle Eastern meal!
