I’m compiling a list of cookbook stores around the world - those wonderlands stocked with every food and wine book you ever wanted, staffed by experts who can help you discover the books you don’t yet know about. 

If you’re lucky enough to have a dedicated cookbook store near you or you may even own one – then do let us know and we will add the store details to our list. 

Jane and I have been known to make ‘pilgrimages’ to cookbook stores when traveling - Omnivore Books in San Francisco, Books for Cooks in London and we wrote about our visit to Kitchen Arts & Letters in New York in the June newsletter.  It would be great for us, and EYB members, to know exactly where to go on future trips.

Oh how I wish I had a Powells down the street from me.  I visited a few months ago and spent about twenty minutes just walking up and down aisles over and over at the big main store.  What a great, great, city.

Fiona, I love this idea.  Do you plan on keeping a list at the top of this post?  Or is it going to be a separate section of this site?

I never searched out a specifically cookbook themed bookstore when living in D.C., but there's a great bookstore in Dupont Circle that has a nice selection of cookbooks despite the size of the place.  It's called Kramerbooks and it's a popular place partly because it also has a cafe/bar inside.  So, be cautioned that it's not a library setting if that's what you're used to.

I honestly never go for the cookbook stores when in Cincinnati so I don't know if there are any.  I tend toward browsing at Half Price Books instead.

Anyone know of good places for cookbooks (preferably used) in Chicago?

A site that might help with your list is hosted by the American Booksellers Association and called IndieBound.org. Here is a link to their store locator function, which works geographically. I did a search on "cookbooks" in their general site search and although it turned up a bunch of results that weren't helpful, it looked like that might be a way to get the beginnings of a list for the US.

Another state by state (and Canada this time) listing of independent bookstores is available at NewPages.com. The listings often incude a link to the bookstore's website and might include a word or two of description. Inclusion in the list seems to depend upon the bookstore requesting a listing.

I'd like to suggest adding the The Cook Book Stall at Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia.

If you are in the Boston area - get yourself to the New England Mobil Bookfair in Newton.  They have an extensive cookbook collection and best sellers are 40-50% off and anything sold for "Jessica's Biscuit" website is available at a discounted price. The place is unlike any bookstore you have been in.  Books are organized by publisher - except in the cookbook section.  Serendipity is the proper mindset for browsing here.

Books for Cooks in Melbourne, Australia is a beautiful store.

The Cookery Book is in Sydney, but I haven't been to check it out yet.

Kitchen Arts and Letters is just a couple of blocks from our apt. I had to stop going by it as it was beginning to cost me a fortune!
