I've been gradually reading the welcome thread from the very beginning. It's interesting seeing people from so many places and reading their stories about how they started collecting cookbooks, how they found the site, etc. And sometimes I click on the user name to see more details, but that made me wonder ... what happens to the forum posts of inactive members? Because, so far, I haven't come across a single user name that I couldn't click on to view their library nor have I seen any notations that a forum post was written by an inactive user. I was just wondering ... I know the site is great, but some members must occasionally discontinue their memberships. No?

We only delete membership records if a member specifically asks us to do so. By deleting their membership it removes their Bookshelf and any posts they made on the blog or Forum and removes any notes or photos they added - so it quite a drastic step. Sometimes members take a break and come back so we don't want them to have to create their Bookshelf again from scratch. So you may see Bookshelves or notes or Forum posts from members who are no longer active. But I think it would be worse to remove them just because someone is no longer paying for their membership. Most of the members who ask for their records to be deleted are Free members who have hardly used the site at all.
