Indexing my older books   Go to last post Go to last unread

I (temporarily) stopped adding my books to EYB because at that time, there were so many books that I could not add.  EYB was planning a feature where users could add/index their own books... possibly sharing those indices with a flag of "user-indexed," so that folks could differentiate the books in the EYB library from those added by non-professional indexers.

I'm just checking in again... and can't find an answer in the forum.

Has this feature been added at this point?

Thanks....

Dorothy

Hi Dorothy

I guess quite a few of us are waiting for member indexing to be released :)

See the link below for a recent answer by Jane from EYB

Dorothy, I don't know when you quit adding books to EYB, but I had joined EYB early and stopped adding books because, like you say, there were so many I couldn't add. Then recently, I tried again and many thousands more books had been added to the EYB database. I was able to add many, many more of my books. So if it's been awhile since you stopped adding books, you may want to try again.

For my books that aren't in the database but have ISBN #s, I used EYB's import books feature (plus kept my own Excel spreadsheet of them) so that these books will be automatically added to my bookshelf when they are included in the database by Jane and Fiona (I use the "sort books" feature on my bookshelf by "when added to library" to keep track of when the imported by ISBN books are added and then delete them from my Excel spreadsheet of books not yet on EYB). I also have a spreadsheet of books without ISBN numbers for if/when it is possible to add these books to the EYB database.

What is the prospect for being able to add our older cookbooks without ISBNs? Even if they have to go on a personal bookshelf like the personal recipes, it would be very helpful to be able to make notes about them. I love being able to index personal recipes, particularly chosen ones from books that will never be indexed.

We do want to add this feature and it is still on our to-do list but we have a couple of major projects in development right now which means it could be a while.  What I have done for a couple of members who wanted to index their books without ISBN numbers is add just that one book so they can index request it. The most recent one that went up is Composer in the Kitchen.  So email us at [email protected] if you want to index an entire book and I will add it for you.  It would help if you could send the Title, Sub-title, Author, Publisher, Date of publication, Format and # of pages.  This is why we cannot add more than occasional books without ISBN numbers as it is a lot of work to enter all this manually.

If you interested in just adding a few recipes from your books without ISBN numbers, then it doesn't matter that there is no ISBN.  For Personal recipes there is no link to the book so you can enter all the recipe ingredients/categories then enter the book name and page number in Personal Notes.
