Duplicate Bookmarks options?   Go to last post Go to last unread

I have the following in my possible Bookmarks list (along with a couple others):

  • I want to cook this

  • To Try

Seems to me that these are duplicates of each other? Why would I use one over the other? Did I accidentally add one of them?

I think you must have created a To Try bookmark, probably before noticing the EYB-wide 'I want to cook this' Bookmark. For a while, I was getting a lot of use out of my 'On deck' Bookmark, which was a shortlist of 'I want to cook this'. To help myself try new things when I was meal planning, every other week or so, I'd pencil in an 'On deck' recipe.

joeljkp - EYB has created 3 "sticky" Bookmarks that appear at the top of every member's Bookmarks list - "I've cooked this". "I want to cook this" and "Favorite Recipes", As ellabee says, you must have also created the "To Try" bookmark yourself, not realizing it was a duplicate of our sticky Bookmark.

Perfect! Thanks all, and I love the "On deck" idea.

I use the standard EYB "I want to cook this" meaning someday; I want to remember this recipe. I made a personal bookmark "Cook this month" to help me with meal planning. The recipes with "Cook this month" always get the "I want to cook this" bookmark too, because I find the "hat" symbol useful.

I will also make temporary personal bookmarks when planning for special events or company which require extensive cooking. (For example, I hosted my parents and my uncle & aunt for week last summer.)

I also have specialized monthly reminder bookmarks.  However, my daily browsing of members' reviews means I may want to remember a recipe that is totally not right for the present conditions, i.e., borscht when it's 113 in August.  So I have made a list of organized bookmarks by the calendar..."01 Cooking for the Month of January", "02 Cooking for the Month of February" through "09 Cooking for the Month of September".  After that, use the 10 for October, etc.   A very helpful hint from a forum member who told me how to thwart the computer's urge to alphabetize and numerically-list stuff, not the way I wanted.  List all months with "0-number" until you get to the "1" months.  Voila, calendar listings in order.

This is useful when you find a neat recipe for, say, gingerbread cookies in April.  Yes, we can make gingerbread cookies anytime of the year, but isn't it a sacrilege to make Christmas cookies at Easter?  Better put that note in December.

Thank you for this.  I didn't realize I was able to add a notation that I made a particular recipe.
