Searching for how to make an ingredient   Go to last post Go to last unread

Is there a way to search for a recipe to make an ingredient rather than recipes using it. For example I am looking for recipes/methods to make "clotted cream" but if I use that as my search term I get almost 50 other recipes that include (pre-made) clotted cream as an ingredient. Clotted cream is merely an example of the general class of problem not the specific one.

I resorted to using both OpenAi's ChatGPT and Google's Bard AI systems to find out how to make clotted cream! Their methods are similar but have slightly different ingredients. (One adds butter to the double cream.) Neither provides an attribution for their response.

Use the "how to" filter under recipes types... then search "clotted cream"... 11 online recipes in eyb ;-)

The "How to..." tag isn't infallible for a couple of reasons:

1. You can still get recipes with the How to... tag that contain clotted cream as an ingredient. But the recipes at the top will be the most relevant as "clotted cream" is in the recipe title.

2. The "How to..." tag was created some time into EYB's operation so there will be a lot of recipes that should have the tag but haven't yet. If any member feels the tag should be added to a recipe then email us and we will add it.

Thanks @debkellie and @jane for the help. So many options to explore on the recipe search page.

Where is this tag exactly? I don't see it.

Select recipes. Then on the RHS use the Filter by options. Open up Recipe Types followed by Misc and there you will find  How To lurking.

KatieK - if using our mobile website, the filters are under the Filter menu, located in the green search bar.

With some searching I found How to... under Misc. under Recipe types on my iPhone.  I normally access EYB on my computer, not my phone.  I wonder why they are formatted differently.  Do most people use their phones for EYB?  I wonder...
