We are seeing here in U.K. many new brands of cast-iron cookware, almost all emanating from China, at prices which considerably undercut the brand leader Le Creuset. Even so, they are not cheap, and I would hesitate before committing to a large item without research and user feedback. Most of the large supermarkets seem to have their own limited ranges, ditto the equipment suppliers like Lakeland and Denby.
Is the situation the same in the States/Australia? I note even Le Creuset have some of their stoneware made in China now.
Most of ours at home is Le Creuset, one casserole from Cousances - now owned by Le Creuset, plus a shallow "buffet casserole" from Denby, which so far seems fine.
Recently came across Le Chasseur, French made, and bought a gratin dish which Le Creuset don't seem to market here, to try out.
We do not have any experience of Staub, which does not seem to have a high profile here.
