For those who have made Mum's Chicken Curry from Made in India..... and living in areas without tomato passata, what did you use instead?  I read up on tomato passata, and only thing I understand is that it's uncooked puree of tomato?  If so, it seems fresh tomatoes pureed will do?

I just found a good explanation of tomato passata at www.thekitchn.com. You are right that it is an uncooked puréed tomato sauce. They say you could make your own by putting good quality canned tomatoes through a food mill but even better for you they say it is available in the SF Bay Area in Italian grocery stores. They also show a photo of Pomi brand passata in a box and I think I've seen this box at the local upscale grocery chain in the Pacific NW. I hope this helps you track your passata down in time for dinner.

Thanks!  I have two Italian grocery stores fairly close by, I'll drop over there some time and check it out.
