I recently came across "Tukhmaria" in an Indian spice store.  I believe it is also spelled "Tukmaria" and is also known in India as "satija seeds" or "sabja" and are sweet basil seeds.  I understand that they must be soaked in water and become gelatinous, but does anyone have any experience or recipes for using this ingredient?  I came across a few recipes for using them in smoothies and beverages, but would like to find other cooking venues for them. They look very much like Chia seeds.  Thanks!

I have used them only in drinks such as http://yummyindiankitche...recipe-basil-seed-drink/

I tend to use them mainly in falooda too. There is a couple of pudding-style recipes in the Online Recipes that look interesting, especially a Melissa Clarke recipe. There were also a couple of savoury dishes, though they did appear to be used more as a garnish. You will need to narrow the search field by using quotation marks for "basil seeds", otherwise you'll get basil + [coriander/sesame/sunflower/etc] seeds.
