Adding favorite Finnish cookbooks not carried by Amazon ...   Go to last post Go to last unread

I have tried adding 978-952-93-6024-6 through the import books option without success. This cookbook is Makuja Ja Muotoja: Flavours and Forms from Kuusamo Lapland by Jarmo Pitkanen. Muotoja is the "Redzepi" of Finland so the book is readily available if you know which importers to check. Unfortunately, these importers do not include Amazon which is, I suspect, why I can't add the book.

For those interested in Scandinavian cooking, I highly recommend this cookbook for a modernist/traditional take on tundra food. examples of the types of recipes:

  • Pavlova with rhubarb-meadowsweet compote

  • Chicken and rosebay bundles with wood sorrel

  • Ide in spelt crust

  • Perch with pike and false morel filling

  • Lingonberry shot with spelt roasted fine flour

  • Tar-scented malt loaf

  • Creamy salmon soup

Note that the same problem likely applies to:

  • 9789529663590 A Tasty Trip to Finland by the Martha Organization

  • 9789525913040 Finland a la Carte - Manne Stenros

  • 9789527054192 Helsinki Food Book by Teresa Valimaki et. al.

  • 9789198163629 Taste of Sapmi - Sami Cusine by Victoria Harnesk

  • 9789522204868 Wild Herb Cookbook by Sami Tallberg

  • 9789525969436 Wild, Weird & Wonderful - Finnish Cuisine Today by Sami Tallberg

All these books are in English and available through Back Home Books.

Thank you Mjes, I just own a little book on Scandinavian food, one of the Time Life series, your recommendations are really interesting to broaden my interest.

mjes - we don't have the resources to manually add the data for every cookbook not listed on Amazon. Though we will happily add any book manually if a member wants to index it. Just email us with the book info and we will put it in the Library so you can request to index it.

However, I did add these Finnish books since they looked very interesting. They have all automtically been added to your Bookshelf since you had requested them.

Thank you very much. I suspect that this doesn't happen often but as these illustrate, when it does happen they are often very interesting, at least to people with a specific interest in the cuisine. And yes, I'll gladly index them once I am comfortable that I have the rules down.

I just tried to add the UK edition of French Country Cooking by Mimi Thorisson 978-1-78188-110-8 but it tells me the ISBN is not valid. The US edition is in the library, same cover. Perhaps it would not be too difficult to link the U K edition to it.
Such a beautiful book, I would be surprised if more people don't get it.

Cati, I've just created a record in the EYB Library for the UK French Country Cooking and linked it to the US edition (which is presently assigned to a member for indexing).
