Can anyone recommend a good fruit salad recipe with seasonal winter fruits? i.e. not pineapples, mangos etc. No nuts please either. I definitely want to include fruit in our Christmas brunch menu this year but not decided on details yet. I know I can wing it as a last resort but would be nice to have some tried and tested options. Thanks!

Have you tried a search of recipes ? I just did this one which delivered 19 online desert style salads for winter with no nuts! Happy eating - here in OZ it'll be a blistering 30 degrees + today .. !!

Thanks @debkelliemember I definitely didn't realise you could exclude ingredients in the search! Hot Christmas seems so strange to me, do you still do a big cooked Christmas dinner? @mjes that looks really interesting, lots of things I like, although a bit fussier than I had imagined.

If I think winter fruit salad, no exotic fruits, and no nuts, what comes to mind is "but there are no fruits left" and then, orange carpaccio, or clementines and grapes or apples and pears, with a clove-y Christmassy spice mix?

But it depends what you mean by seasonal fruits (and where you live!)

I have made this Winter Fruit Compote at holiday time for years and everyone really likes it.  If you prefer, you can leave out the pineapple.

German´s do something called Röte Grütze, it is very good

Ferran Adriá once did an orange sort of carpaccio (thicker slices), put some tarragon, a drizzle of honey, olive oil, a bit of good salt in flakes on it. I did it at home, quite simple, but it is surprising and tastes great.

Melissa Clark also has a version from her book Cook This Now: Sliced Oranges with Olives and Chiles- it's quite stunning with a mix of oranges- cara cara and blood oranges, sliced green olives.

I have a winter salad from my old Betty Crocker Cookbook from the early 1970s that we have loved for years and would be perfect for a brunch. It is called simply "Grapefruit Avocado Salad." Cut an avocado into slices and put into your salad bowl along with supremed grapefruit sections from a pink grapefruit. The dressing is equal parts salad oil, honey and limeade concentrate with poppy seeds. For a single avocado and a single grapefruit I use 1 tablespoon each of the liquid dressing ingredients and add 1teaspoon poppy seeds. Mix the dressing well, pour over the avocado and grapefruit, then chill it a bit and serve. To serve more than 2 or three people simply double or triple the amounts. If you use a ruby red grapefruit it is a very pretty salad with the bright green of the avocado contrasting with the dark pink of the grapefruit all dotted with the black poppy seeds.

Thanks everyone for the lovely suggestions, I'm going to sit and go through all of them properly later today! ☺️
