Why do I get recipes for red cabbage when I ask for white?   Go to last post Go to last unread

Today I was looking for a recipe for white cabbage, so I chose ingredient "cabbage" and extra search term "white". I was very surprised to get almost exclusively recipes for red cabbage. Using "white cabbage" as search term did not help either. There were one or two recipes with other white ingredients (white wine, white pepper), but with most recipes I don't have a clue about why they would show up in this search.

Does anyone know what's going on here? And, more importantly, does anyone know how I can get only recipes with white cabbage?

I agree that search isn't working as well as it could.  We will look at ways it could be improved.

I get a bit frustrated with the search function, too.  This morning I'm just looking for a different biscuit recipe, and cannot seem to configure my search to avoid getting recipes for cupcakes and cookies, too.

Hi Queezle_Sister,

In order to find the biscuit recipes you are looking for, first type biscuits into the search box. Then you want to apply the "Recipe Type" filter "Bread & rolls, savory." To do this, on the right-hand side of your screen, click "Recipe Type," then "Baking," then "Bread & Rolls, savory." If you were looking for sweet biscuits instead, choose "Bread & buns, sweet."

Another thing to keep in mind is that if there is a recipe type you are trying to avoid, you can apply a filter to exclude it. Simply apply a filter as described above, then click the green+ to turn it into a red-.

It takes a little getting used to, but the search filters can really help you narrow down your searches and help you find what you are looking for.

Another thing to be aware of with biscuits is that EYB is an international site and biscuits have a different meaning outside the USA i.e. they are cookies. So always do as Christine suggests and use the filters - "Bread & rolls, savory" to get the US style scone-type biscuit and "Cookies, biscuits & crackers" to get the crisp sweet version.
