I signed up today. Searched for a recipe in a book I own. Only the ingredients were shown! This is a waste of time and did not deliver what was promised. How do I delete my account? There are no instructions anywhere.

Sorry, we don't have the full recipes on the website - Eat Your Books is not a recipe site. We try to make this clear to new visitors to EYB. The 1, 2, 3 points on the landing page explain that you use EYB to "find recipes in the cookbooks you own" and use your cookbook to cook from. The Quick Tour page also states "Eat Your Books does not reproduce the actual recipe; it helps members find their recipes in their cookbooks and magazines."

We could not reproduce all the recipes from cookbooks and magazines as that would be a breach of the author and publisher's copyright. EYB helps you find recipes in the books and magazines you already own. You use the ingredients or other criteria such as recipe type, ethnicity, special diet, etc to find what you are looking for in your books, then pull that book or magazine from your bookshelf to cook from.

If we reproduced all the recipes in full, then many people would never buy the books. The value of the recipes in the books indexed so far is over $80,000 so it wouldn't work if we gave that away for $25 p.a. We are a site for people who love their cookbooks and magazines and want to get more use from them.

Though we now also link recipes to online sites where the recipe has been published with the author's consent such as magazines or newspapers or their own sites. For an example of this, have a look at the book Plenty by Yotam Ottolenghi - many of these recipes first appeared in the Guardian newspaper in the UK. We are also now indexing food blogs where obviously every recipe is available online and we link to online recipes on magazine sites.  So there are over 90,000 online recipes you can access the full recipe from EYB.

We do have information on how to cancel a paying membership in our Help section.  We also have Contact links at the top and bottom of every page if any member has a question they cannot find the answer to.

You only signed up for a free membership so there is nothing to cancel. If you want your membership record deleted from our database please email us at [email protected].  Your Forum post here will then also disappear so this topic will be deleted.
