Hi

Quite a proportion of the books I own haven't been indexed yet. Could you send an email notification when a book which I have requested an index for comes online? It would remind me that you are making progress and that keeping the subscription up is worthwhile!

thanks

Roger

Hi RogerP - there is a very easy way to tell if any of your books have been indexed.  The default sort on your Books tab of your Bookshelf is latest indexed.  So whenever you look at your Books you will see the books that have most recently been indexed at the top.  And of course the recipes in the books automatically become part of your searches as soon as the book is indexed.

You have 55% of the books on your Bookshelf indexed, which is slightly below the EYB member average of 65% indexed.  But since most of your books are British, that isn't surprising since we started indexing British books later than the American ones (we first launched the site in the USA).  We are indexing more books every day so you should see your percentage increase over time.  And of course you can also volunteer to index your own books that it make take us some time to get to - i.e. those on less than 40 Bookshelves.

Hello - I tried the member indexing using a very small book to see if I can do it.  Since it was my first time doing, I was not sure if I was doing it correctly.  Will EYB let the members know when their books are approved after member indexing and any possible suggestions for the next time or problems?  Thank you.

Hi Rinshin -- All member-indexed books are proofread by Sydney before they are approved and added to the library. She does give feedback to members and works with members to fix indexing errors. So glad to hear you gave it a try!

That's good to know Christine.  Like Roger, I just counted the books I've added so far and it shows I have 101 indexed books and 124 unindexed books so far.  It would be nice if you have some way to notify the members when books become indexed.  It can be done by email, on the home page with an area devoted to the recently indexed books by title on a bi-monthly or monthly style.  Could that be something that can be brought about in the future?  Thank you.

I visit Eat Your Books' home page almost every day, because it's fun to check out the new Notes members have left on recipes and books.  I usually also take a look at the Indexed Books in the Library, to get a sense of the current speed of the March to 5000 (looking now as if it'll happen in June of 2014).  The most recently indexed are at the top of that list, and more than once recently it's been a happy surprise to see books on my Bookshelf appear.

If you sort your unindexed books by popularity, it's definitely worth clicking on each of those to Request Index (by EYB) the ones that are on 40 or more Bookshelves.  In that list, any that EYB staff or members are currently working on will have the tag Indexing Now, you can expect to see them show up in your Recipe holdings sooner rather than later.
