I am registered on (one of) EYBs lesser competitors as well (beta beta) , a feature they have that I really like is the opting in for a random recipe  suggestion  to be emailed (daily or weekly). The recipe is generated from your listed cookbooks.

At the very least, whether I follow up the recipe/book or not, the email reminds me about my subscription and to use the site (even though it really reminds me to go to EYB cos its better) What do EYB users think about this feature ? Remember its an 'opt in' feature so you dont have to have it if you dont like it.

Thanks for that information Therese.  We are thinking about better ways to communicate with our members but there is a fine line between welcome communication and annoying overload of your inbox.  But opting in to emails is definitely an option (as we do with the monthly newsletter).

I'd be interested to know if randomly selected recipes from your cookbooks would be of interest to EYB members. It does seem unlikely that one recipe out of your entire collection would actually match what you want to cook or eat that day.  But as we expand the social networking side of the website and our author/new books information, there are definitely ways to keep EYB in members' thoughts (without annoying them).

I would *love* a random recipe feature. What if it weren't emailed, but something you could get on the site? For instance, if there was a button to get a random recipe, or if there was a new random recipe from your collection every time you logged in? For me, having a completely random recipe pop up would remind me that I even had a book, or possibly inspire me to make a similar recipe that I had forgotten about. Either way--email, or feature--I think it's a great idea.

I would love that feature, it would be more useful if you could do a search for say 'dinner' in your cookbooks and then have an option with the search results to email 5/10 random 'dinner' recipes once a week.

Hi all,

I'd like to jump in on this as well.  I'd love that feature and would love to be able to do a random cuisine as well.  I'm a member of a cooking group and we frequently will pick a certain countries cuisine as the theme for our get together.  We'd love to have the added element of a random recipe being selected.

Thanks!

I would love this feature! Even if the recipe were of no interest to me on that day, it might be later, or it would most likely cause me to at least open up the book and see what other treasures it held. Technically, this might be difficult, but it would be an especially cool feature if the recipe happened to be seasonally appropriate -- for example, a recipe using peaches or tomatoes or corn in August, an asparagus recipe in spring, a hearty stew or soup in winter, etc.

Re seasonal news in general: It'd be good if there could be different versions depending on the latitude of the EYB member. It's early spring here...

Eventually, when the numbers justify it, we will have community pages relating to each major territory - so the Seasonal searches, Buzz, Top 10 books, Latest indexed books, etc would relate to the territory you are in.  Little way off yet.
