Books in Common not working?   Go to last post Go to last unread

Is the "Books in Common" feature (the little check-off box) not working? Or maybe it's just because of the site slowness? I was trying to compare my collection to that of another EYB member using the "Books in Common" check-off box, but it's not working for me today. Nor do I see the note I sometimes see on the bottom of the screen that the page is still loading. I think I waited long enough, but it still just showed the person's whole collection, including books I don't own. I only tried it with one user so far though. I can pick another user at random and try again.

Thanks for alerting us to that issue. We will get it resolved ASAP.

I'm concerned that you are saying the site is running slow for you. According to our diagnostics the site has been running well since we introduced the captcha verification. Have any other members experienced slowness in page loading times?

No, not slow today, Jane. I just knew that you'd been having site slowness issues over the past couple of weeks. But they seem to be resolved now.

The site slowness issue was caused by search bots which the addition of captcha verification (added last week) should resolve.

The books in common / indexed books issue on the Profile page is resolved. For any members not aware of this feature, you can click any member username e.g. here in the Forum, on the blog comments or on the Bookshelves listed for each book, and see their Bookshelf listing. You can filter those to see what books you have in common. Members can also add a bio about themselves to their Profile page.

So I am having a similar issue when I click on a book in my library and go to click the down arrow it’s not working. I like to use that to look at the book details and the bookshelves the book is on. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

alliebaybay - I assume this is on a phone since that is the only place the down arrow appears? I cannot replicate this myself on an iPhone. What phone and browser are you using? And have any other members experienced this new issue?

I am using safari and I have an iphone 11 pro. I’m going to try updating my ios and see if that works.

I'm also having a weird issue on the mobile website via Chrome on Android. I can select anything under My Bookshelf or Library from the Home page, but once I leave the home page the drop downs under Home/My Bookshelf/Library do not appear. The only way to navigate to anything is to hit the back button until I get to the Home page again.

So I updated my phone to ios 17 and the down arrow when clicking on a book is still not working. Please fix as soon as you can!

alliebaybay - I haven't heard from any other members that they are having the same issue as you and the down arrow works correctly for me on my iPhone. Can any members who use EYB on an iPhone please check on theirs and report back.You would open Library or My Bookshelf Books then click the down arrow under the book title to view more details. It's always difficult for our developers to resolve an issue that is not experienced by everyone.

I'm still on iOS16 and using an iPhone 13.  The down arrow is working for me.

alliebaybayhas sent me a screenshot and I had misunderstood which down arrow she means. The down arrow not working is on the book details page to see more tabs e.g. Bookshelves and More Detail. I hope the developers can get these two phone issues resolved soon.

I'm using Firefox on a Windows laptop and also having the 'More Details' arrow not work. I can expand the window big enough for Bookshelves and More Detail to be visible,but that's probably not an option on a phone.

ellabee - that's very strange that you have the issue on a laptop as the book details page tabs shouldn't need to be wrapped as they are on a smaller phone screen. But anyway, whatever the issue is on the mobile website, it will be fixed for your laptop too.
