EYB recipe-adding-applet not working   Go to last post Go to last unread

Over time I have used the wonderful applet that lets one add online recipes to EYB many times. It's a fantastic convenience. Just now I tried to add this recipe:

https://cooking.nytimes....36-cream-of-spinach-soup

Instead of bringing up a small window where I can enter all the necessary info about the recipe, the small window said "Error! Something's Gone Wrong..." and went on to say "We're Sorry. Your page has not loaded or your search has taken longer to return than normal." That's really strange, given that my browser (Firefox) has no problem loading the page and the little window with the error message popped up immediately, without any noticeable pause.

If I find another recipe that I would like to add to EYB I'll share the results (successful or not) here to help track down what may have gone wrong.

The same problem occurs when trying to add this recipe (same website as the first one)

https://cooking.nytimes....ulyas-sauerkraut-goulash

That issue usually happens if a site puts a block on any data getting scraped. Up until now the NYT has not been an issue but maybe they have now added the block. I will contact them to see if they can make an exception for EYB since we don't scrape the full recipe and in fact drive traffic to their site.

Thanks ever so much for looking into this.  Hopefully the powers that be over at NYT Cooking will see the value of the no-doubt ever-growing number of site visits that start with someone finding a recipe on EYB.

Having said that, after running into the same problem twice with reccipes from NYT Cooking, I tried adding a recipe from another website, thewooksoflife.com.  It's become my favorite website for Chinese recipes.  Here, again, the applet did not work.  However there was a different error message.  The recipe I wanted to add is here:

https://thewoksoflife.com/moo-goo-gai-pan/

This is the error message:

You cannot add this recipe as it is from a blog that is already being indexed by EYB. If you have added this blog to your Bookshelf it will be automatically added.

The recipe you tried to add was: https://thewoksoflife.com/moo-goo-gai-pan/

This is so strange because I would LOVE to include The Woks of Life among the blogs in my EYB Bookshelf.  However for the life of me I cannot find it when I look for blogs in the EYB library.  Maybe it is being indexed behind the scenes and not yet available to EYB users.  If so, that's wonderful news.

I then tried two more recipes on different sites, both times with no problem.

https://ansonmills.com/r...pes/572?recipes_by=grain

(I am thinking Thanksgiving for this recipe.)

https://amazingribs.com/...s/smoked-homemade-bacon/

(With cooler weather, and a new gizmo to let me monitor my barbecue from indoors, it's time to get some pork belly from Costco and give this a try.)

So, it seems that the applet is working for some things, but may have run into a second snag - or maybe not - with the recipe at thewoksoflife.com

Thanks for looking into this.

We are indexing the recipes from The Woks of Life now and hope to have the index up very soon.

So, this would be why the applet no longer works with King Arthur Baking? I use the app browser as a work-around, but it is not as convenient. :(

Yes, King Arthur Baking is the next one being done after The Woks of Life.
