For anyone who may not have the Gourmet Cookbook--the big yellow one-- you should know it's currently on sale for 82% off on Amazon.com.  Right now it's $7.04!

I ordered one the other day at a similar price and it just got here.  I'm so looking forward to cooking from it, probably for years.  Just go to the EYB page and click on the "Buy this Book" link, then choose "Amazon (US)".

EDIT: Jane has informed us that EYB gets a commission for each book bought from Amazon by way of the "Buy this Book" link.  More for them, more for us, right??

Thanks for the tip!  I have the newer book,  Gourmet Today, and I do really like it.  I've found that most, if not all, of the recipes in the book can also be found (for free) on the Epicurious website.  I often refer to that for reviews of recipes that I've found in the book.  The book does have a lot of added value with information about background, ingredients, etc.  Assuming that the older book has all of this added information, that's quite a deal indeed!  I just hope that there's not a lot of overlap with the newer book in the recipes that are included.

I have both books. And while I haven't checked in detail, I never noticed any overlap. I believe they are totally different books, and Gourmet Today has new recipes.

Now it's down to $6.86. I went ahead and ordered it. I know most of the recipes are on Epicurious but for the price, I figure it couldn't hurt to have it, just for the background material alone.

Don't forget if you want to order any cookbooks from Amazon, if you do it through EYB's Buy Book link, we earn a small commission.  And the more money we earn, the more books we can index!

Good to know, Jane. I didn't realize the benefit to the site. I will go through the site whenever I can, from now on. Thanks for the tip! Is this true, even when the books are used?

I didn't know that!  I've edited the original message to convey that.

We use the yellow Gourmet a lot but I do have a problem with it.
I bought at full tilt retail the week it came out. I found that they had printed the recipe titles are printed in a pale yellow. I can't see them at night under incandescent lighting. The ones I use, I trace the name with pencil which as a book lover seems wrong.

I couldn't agree more! I use the yellow Gourmet book often, but ALWAYS struggle to read the recipe titles. I like your idea of outlining them with pencil. Since I already write in my books the date I first made the recipe, any adjustments I made or think should be made and an overall rating, what's a little more ink???? ;)
