I just wanted to say thank you to the person that indexed Vincent and Mary price's book.  I just noticed it today and have to go through all the recipes I've made from this book over the years (if I remember the specifics of the recipes) to leave notes.  This book was one of my earliest book purchase.  I made the blueberry muffin recipe from this book many times when I used to eat more sweeter food items.

A Treasury of Great Recipes: Famous Specialties of the World's Foremost Restaurants Adapted for the American Kitchen by Mary Price and Vincent Price

I second that, with a great BIG thank you! I didn't realize there were so many recipes in this book until seeing the total on my bookshelf. Wow.

Adding my thanks!   So many of the books on my EYB Bookshelf are virtual -- wishlists, topics of interest -- and so many of my actual books are indexed, that it's a great thrill when one of them suddenly "light up" this way.

Now, who among us is strong and selfless enough to take on The New Doubleday Cookbook?   It's also an embarrassment of riches, at 1000 4000 or so recipes.  But a bible for many, part of what makes Jean Anderson so respected.

I kinda petered out indexing Book of Tofu because the writing is so small, book paper more yellowed and hard to see, and I became sick 2 years ago but I plan to go back trying again. I'm up to 164 recipes so I just cannot imagine 1000 recipes.  Wow.

Hurrah! I too want to add my heartfelt thanks to whoever indexed the legendary Treasury of Great Recipes - what an undertaking! I write about movie stars and their favourite recipes and have cooked many dishes from this book - it is my absolute favourite Cookbook. Thank you to the selfless and wonderful person who put so much time into this. Would love to know who you are....

I appreciate your kind words concerning the indexing of A Treasury of Great Recipes. Actually it is the book itself published in 1974 that has created the attention. The indexing just makes the book easier to use. Mary and Vincent Price seemed to have considered themselves home cooks just like many of us in EYB. They were determined to share as much of their cooking knowledge as they could cram into this book, and cram they did to our benefit. No wonder their daughter is so proud of them.

mfto, so glad you identified yourself as the member-indexer of the Prices' book. I thought of crediting your EYB username but didn't want to out you if you preferred to remain anonymous!

Now that the cat's out of the bag, other members might be interested to know that mfto is also responsible for adding most (all?) of The Washington Post online recipes you see on EYB, which as a former resident of Washington, DC, I truly appreciate!

Ah, wonderful to know who indexed this fabulous book - thank you again mfto

If you are interested, have a peek at https://vincentennialcookblog.wordpress.com/ where I wrote about cooking one Vincent Price recipe a week during the year that would have been his 100th birthday.

Silverscreensuppers, thank you for the links. You are a fan in word and deed. I think that indexing the book is a lot easier than cooking one Vincent Price recipe a week for a year. Be sure to post notes with the recipes that you cook to let us know how the recipes turn out.

What a fun blog silverscreensuppers.  I wish I can remember some of my fav ones I cooked from - they were all from Bon Appetit in the 70's or early 80's.

Aw, thanks both for the kind words!  I will definitely post notes about Vincent & Mary's recipes.  I just adore The Treasury and have woken up with it in bed beside me many times - ha ha!  Jx

I got my copy of this book tonight as a birthday present from my sweet husband. I have had it on my Amazon wish list since this thread began seven months ago. :)
