I believe that a Forum feature is not working at the moment.  Whenever I post, I ask to be informed by e-mail of any further postings on the topic, but I never get any e-mails.  Not a big problem, because I find myself looking at the forum multiple times daily.

Fixed now, thanks so much!

The new site is a real improvement!  Congratulations!  I do think that, eventually, it would be most helpful to allow users to choose default displays.  That way everyone could be happy.

LOVE that it defaults to Recipes since that's what I'm looking for probably 98% of the time. Would hate to see Bookshelf default to Books.

I also prefer default to Recipes. That is usually where I am going when I open the site.

I really like the new version.  The only thing that I really don't like is how I have to click on "Next 25 results" for all of the searches.  I'd love to have it go back to just page numbers, and have a "jump to" box available, so that if I'm on page 1, and it goes to page 42, I can just "jump" to page, say, 25.  I know this is such a small thing, but I'm finding the current "next 25 results" is really decreasing my enjoyment of browsing my recipes.

Do you have any updates on if this will happen?  I've been searching for pancakes and pizzas, but it's a pain to keep going past the first two "next 25" clicks to get to ones I haven't made before.  (Ha--pancakes and pizzas--can you tell I have a toddler in the house???)  It's just so slow to generate the next 25, I'd love to be able to jump right to where I know I left off.  Thank you!

Hi there!

I posted the following on another thread. I think it might help you out.

"I've found a way around the pagination issue. I figured out how many times I need to click the "Next 25 books" link and entered that in the web address field. Here's the process I use:

1. Go to my bookshelf and view my books

2. Select the sort option I wish to view

3. Click the "Next 25 Books" link

4. In the address field, go the very end and change the number 2 that is typed there to the appropriate number to reach the end of your list.

This is the web address that shows when you click the "Next 25 books" link:

http://www.eatyourbooks....bookshelf/books#pindex=2

I then change that 2 to 29 and I get my full bookshelf.

http://www.eatyourbooks....ookshelf/books#pindex=29

It can take awhile to load, but it works every time :) Oh and to figure out what the correct number for your bookshelf is, take the number of books on your shelf and divide by 25, then round the answer up. :)"

Hope you can use this!

Yeah! Thanks! I have been struggling with this for some time and I am delighted to find a "work-around". Bonnie, today you are my hero! This works really well.

I seem to have a new book added every couple of days from my older list and have to page to the end to find out which one. This method will give instant relief...;). It's sort of like Christmas morning!

To help you see the latest books added to the Library (and to your Bookshelf) we are adding a "Latest added" sort.  Our developer is working on it soon so should be up in the next week or so.

#50 Posted : Friday, March 25, 2011 7:04:18 PM(UTC)

I had missed the significance of the gold colored "NEW' tags by titles on my bookshelf. Now I see that these are titles recently added to my bookshelf by EYB. They are drawn from the ISBNs I submitted in the Import Books feature and which EYB did not have in the database at the time I submitted them. Neat!

And a "Latest added" sort will help me identify them so that I can take them off my Excel spreadsheet.

Jane or Fiona, how long does the gold "NEW" tag display?

#51 Posted : Saturday, March 26, 2011 1:40:37 AM(UTC)

I had missed the "New" tag completely, as it does not show at all if you use the default list, which shows indexed cookbooks on top (and these cookbooks have, in general, not been indexed yet).

It's good to see that those books are being added to the database. Is there a way to see a list with just the "new" books?

The following tip was working until a day or two?  Any idea what happened?  I get random results of about 50 books.

In the latest release of the site that went up on Thursday night, we improved the search results and the member profile page.  You can now view search results 200 to a page by collapsing down the data to the minimum.  The results load much more quickly if you remove the book covers.

The problem with the hack that Bonnie suggested is that it has the potential to bring down the entire server (if someone decided to load the entire Library) or slow down the site for everyone else (if someone has a large Bookshelf and decided to load it all at once).  So we have removed that feature.  But the new minimal search results loading is very fast.

#53 Posted : Sunday, August 21, 2011 12:04:08 AM(UTC)

Wow.. this is the first time I've been disappointed by an upgrade to the site (and not because I figured out the hack!) I used that feature to see my bookshelf and to see which of my books were going to be indexed soon.  I can't do that with the collapsed titles.  Also, I use the book covers to remind myself what books I have.  Many titles are so similar that I can't go just by that and I don't want to have to right-click each link in order to see the cover without losing the full list.  I'm very disappointed that I can no longer see my whole bookshelf with covers without clicking "Next 25 books" thirty-three times!  Obviously, I'm not the only one who used this, so I hope there is something in the works that will let us see our entire bookshelves with full details.

I still love the site and appreciate everything that EYB does.  Just wish this "fix" hadn't happened :(

I, too, am dissapointed.  Loved to be able to look at which books on my shelf would be indexed soon.  Any chance that can be added to the filter feature?

#55 Posted : Sunday, August 21, 2011 3:08:15 PM(UTC)

Like Cheri & Bonnie, I too would appreciate having an option to search for "index soon" books since we are now unable to do so with the new release.

Thanks so much.

#56 Posted : Sunday, August 21, 2011 9:57:06 PM(UTC)

I don't know if this solution will work for others, but I find it useful.  Whenever I enter my cookbooks, I bookmark them either Indexed or Not Indexed.  I can then bring up my Not Indexed list and it has the book covers and the information about Index Soon or Index Requested, etc.  Whenever a cookbook is indexed, I find great delight in changing the Not Indexed bookmark to Indexed!

Every once in a while, I do a search checking "show indexed books only" while using my bookmark Not Indexed.  Any book that has recently been indexed without me noticing it shows up and I change its status.

I also mark my indexed books with a blue round sticker and my "not indexed" with a yellow one.  This lets me know visually which books are not searched in case I want to check the book itself.

I must say, I love EYB!  Only thing, since joining here and then also finding Chowhounds, my cookbook collection has grown considerably.  I'm also using cookbooks that wouldn't have before because I wouldn't have thought to look in them for the recipe I found using EYB.

That's a good solution MMarlean (and thanks by the way for your kind words) but I think quite a few of the members who posted have many hundreds of cookbooks, so it would take ages to Bookmark them all.  So what we are going to do is add a filter for Index Soon books so you will be able to view scheduled books in both your Bookshelf and the Library.

#58 Posted : Monday, August 22, 2011 8:33:49 PM(UTC)

Cool!  Thanks!!!!!!!

Probably means I will buy even MORE books!  A newly indexed book can be like Christmas morning!

Thanks!!  That's so cool!  And I'm so excited!!

I appreciate you and Fiona being so willing to listen to suggestions from us members.  It's nice to know we have a voice and that we're heard.

Thanks so much Jane & Fiona. I echo comments commending your responsiveness to member feedback. The service on this site is unprecedented and most sincerely appreciated.

Filter by Index Soon for books in the Library or on your Bookshelf is now up on the site.  I wish every feature members request could be turned around so quickly - this was an easy one whereas others (like member indexing) are a lot more involved.
