The other day as I was standing in a library (my favorite place) looking at all the wonderful cookbook, I wanted to look them up on EYB and realized my options to do so were.... limited. I could grab the stack I was interested and haul it over to the library computers and get on the site. Tying up a library computer for essentially a low priority curiousity question on my part. Or I could pull out my mobile phone, use the built in browser and spend lots of time zooming in and out of a page optimized for larger computers.

I was thinking options would also be nice while I'm in a bookstore and contemplating a new cookbook purchase. A book not being indexed on EYB probably won't stop me from buying it, but it will make me consider more closely if I really want that book.

Thus, my wishlist additions for site improvemnt: a website optimized for mobile browsers and/or a EYB app for Apple products (I'm sure an app for the Android products would get used, I just happen to have an iPhone!)

I'd love a mobile app as well. At the moment I have a blackberry. I have loads of cookbooks & sometimes wish I could look up my list to see if I already have the book while I'm in the store. Especially if I find a book on remainder & need to make a quick decision about whether to get it.

Also, would love to be able to look up potential recipes from the phone when in the grocery store. Once in a while I have gone to the store to get the one missing ingredient & it is unavailable. I might have to change my cooking plans last minute...

We do plan a mobile interface which would allow any smartphone to access the EYB book and recipe searches.  If you are an EYB member you can search your own Bookshelf.  There will be much better shopping list functions as part of this.  So it will happen, I just can't give you a date at the moment.

A "native" iPad app would also be appreciated!

No sorry, no date yet.  We aren't a large company with unlimited development funds so we have to prioritize what we are investing in.  At the moment our priority is member indexing then after that we are developing the social networking side of the site.  An app is definitely high on our agenda after that though.

If you're just looking to chronicle your own collection, you can always create a cookbook shelf on a site like Goodreads that has a mobile app.  I just did that so I could scan barcodes into goodreads and then import to EYB, but it seems like a good idea anyway, since I'll always have the goodreads list on my iphone to check my own inventory.

Kayakado - EYB works really well on an iPad.

Lindaloulubbock - you shouldn't need to scan your cookbooks into Goodreads in order to import your collection.  You can scan ISBNs directly into EYB using your barcode scanner in the Import Books feature.  This is explained in How to under Help.  You can also see your books on EYB on your iPhone, either by viewing your Profile under your username or by viewing your Bookshelf (reduce the data to minimum using the toggle at the top).  Obviously this will be much better once we have the smartphone interface.
