Adding private book titles and recipe names   Go to last post Go to last unread

I would love to be able to:

1. Add books using titles and adding recipe names without having to add ingredient list for my “private book collection” in my bookshelf. This helps with those books without isbn. I have many of these.

2 Be able to add recipe names to those unindexed in my bookshelf without having to add ingredients as “private recipe”.

By keeping those books and or recipes private the members who do not like to see recipes without ingredients do not have to see when searching.

Rinshin - maybe I am misunderstanding but you can create your own Personal Recipes and add as much or as little data as you like, since only you see those recipes. You would enter the book title and page number in the source field. This is the Help page on adding Personal Recipes.

You don't need to have a book on your Bookshelf to add recipes from it as Personal Recipes, because the recipes are not linked to a book.

Thank you Jane and sorry for not being clear.

I would like to add recipe names and page numbers under the unindexed book titles as private recipe. This is typing one book title and listing recipe names and page no only. Not putting recipe names and adding source ie books or mags for each recipe names. That is more key strokes for me.

Same with those books without isbn. Book title and being able to type in recipe name and page number, one by one under the book title.

All as private info.

Rinshin, I think I understand now what you're trying to do, but unfortunately it's not possible the way EYB is set up. You'd be trying to add "private info" to a Book's listing in the EYB Library/your Bookshelf, but members do not have access to the data in Book records. Even when the much-requested ability for members to add their older, ISBN-less books to the EYB Library is a reality, what you're suggesting would still not be doable; members would only be able to enter the book's basic bibliographic information, similar to what now appears in the EYB Library/Books for each title.

Rinshin, You can make use of your personal reipe forms to do that. Simply put the title of the book in the title space, then go to the notes space on bottom right hand side and list your recipe title and page number for each recipe you want, one under the other. There is plenty of room there. I just did a test run using A to Z.

Thank you for suggesting this. I will certainly try it out. I kinda do half-baked listing under food category - book title or mag issue no and under ingredient list, recipe names and page nos in copy me that under private recipe heading. Your method sounds better.

Thank you Deborah for responding. Looking forward to when we can add our own books.

Cati, I tried it and unfortunately not able to search within notes. The best option may be doing what Jane suggested above. Private recipe and source. That will help me search. Thank you again.

Rinshin, I wish too, that the personal indexing form could be made more user friendly by eliminating the need to retype the name of the book in the source section when entering a few recipes from the same book.. A waste of time and keystrokes as you say. This could be eliminated if the titles you wnte in the source section could be repeated like similar ingredients are.

Cati - just copy the book title then paste it into the source field for each recipe you add.

Thanks Jane, Have now worked out how to do that.
