What else can I make with stew meat other than beef stew?  We've received several packages of it from our cow share but I know my family won't want to eat beef stew that many times. Thanks for any ideas.

There must be something in the EYB online recipes that you haven't made and that aren't stews! Do you have a mincer/grinder? Turn some into ground beef/beef mince.. have a look at the 4379 search results for "stewing beef/ not stews" recipes here! Although it still brings up stew recipes., even with that recipe type excluded.. I like the idea of a cow share!!

As long as you don't consider some of the following suggestions to be "stews" in the classic sense of carrots, potatoes red wine etc (which also make awesome meat pie fillings), I use cubed stewing beef in chilis, curries, rendangs, ragus for pasta and as pulled / shredded meat for tacos, enchiladas, sandwiches, soups (like beef barley, beef noodle etc).  I am uncomfortable when I don't have a signifcant amt of stewing beef waiting in my freezer (packaged in 1 or 1.5 lb amounts as I cook for 2 and also because these amounts make it easy to scale up for larger recipes).

Beef paprikash, kebabs, all manner of curries, pot pie. Cut smaller, maybe stir fries? A favorite quick, recipeless meal in my house is a saute of veggies (ie eggplant, green beans), onions, tomatoes, a leafy green like chard and some precooked beef or pork chunks, Cook all that stew meat in a simple broth or gravy and freeze portions. That way you could get in the long cooking time but still have it available for quick meals.

My office once split a side of beef and let me tell you, an eighth of a cow is a lot of food!

I’ve really been enjoying using beef stew meat for Taiwanese style beef noodle soup and a number of Persian stews (while still a stew, it’s different from a potato, carrot beef stew). For the Persian stews, some of the souring agents and spices might be hard to find, but the beef noodle soup should be able to be made with more common ingredients.
