I own many digital versions of cookbooks, to the point where I wonder, which would be worthy to have as hardcover. It got me to thinking, I'd love to know from others, if you had to limit your collection to 10 hardcover cookbooks, which would you--or do you--have in your collection? For example, some recipes are just easy to find online or digitally, but which hardcover cookbooks would make your top-10 curated, edited, prized collection?

I've got 4 which would make my list because digital versions do not exist.

Dairy Hollow House Soup and Bread Cookbook,  Crescent Dragonwagon

The Pink Adobe Cookbook, Rosalee Murphy (best BBQ sauce in the world)

The Wings of Life,  Julie Jordan

Soups for All Seasons,  Brad McCrorie

The fifth is, which does have a digital version, is:

The Cuisines of Mexico, Diana Kennedy.  This is the first book I truly cooked from, and learned in the cooking.  I would not easily give it up.

My favorite cookbook is Patricia Wells' Trattoria, and it doesn't have an ebook version.

Other great cookbooks that are not available as ebooks:

The Nero Wolfe Cookbook is wonderful, especially if you like lamb.  The mysteries that reference all the recipes are hilarious.

Pancakes from Morning to Midnight by Dorie Greenspan.

50 Chowders by Jasper White.

Northern Italian Cooking by Ghedini.

New York Cookbook by Molly O'Neal.

Microwave Gourmet by Barbara Kafka.

Craig Claiborne's Gourmet Diet.

La Technique by Jacques Pepin.

The Yellow Farmhouse cookbook by Christopher Kimball.

Hurrah! I found 10! I'm sure there are more.

Probably a generational thing, but I haven't warmed to many digital versions. The only ones I'd want solely as e-books are physically big, heavy books like The Food Lab, or the Complete Jacques Pepin.

For a while now, I've had Bookmarks called 10 and 50, the ones I'd keep if I had to pare down to that number. The 10 are:
- Joy of Cooking, Irma Rombauer & Marion Becker <--my mother's (4th ed., 1953), with her notes throughout
- Victory Garden Cookbook, Marian Morash
- Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, Deborah Madison
- Vegetarian Epicure (1&2), Anna Thomas
- Art of Simple Food, Alice Waters
- New Basics, Julee Rosso & Sheila Lukins
- Recipes & Remembrances from an Eastern Mediterranean Kitchen, Sonia Uvezian
- Authentic Mexican, Rick Bayless
- Mexican Everyday, Bayless

Every time I review the list, I'm so grateful I don't yet have to pare down to that point! I might well use the 50 Bookmark at some foreseeable point of I wanted or needed to seriously lighten the shelves; there are about 120 physical cookbooks here.

Life for me be so much better and lighter if all my books and magazines were in digital format.  I can then regain my room and parts of entry way.

I don't really like ebooks for my cookbooks, but if I had just 10 books, I'd maybe select these:

Long Nights and Log Fires: Warming Comfort Food for Family and Friends

Plenty: Vibrant Vegetable Recipes from London's Ottolenghi

Better Home and Gardens New Cook Book (1989)

Simply Sensational Cookies: Bright Fresh Flavors, Natural Colors & Easy Streamlined Techniques

Roast Figs, Sugar Snow: Winter Food to Warm the Soul

The Country Cooking of France by Anne Willan

The Complete Asian Cookbook by Charmaine Solomon

The Art of Simple Food: Notes, Lessons, and Recipes from a Delicious Revolution

Blue Willow Inn Bible of Southern Cooking
