Would be useful to have a feature where different editions of the same book could be compared. For example the 2016 and 2022 editions of  Pride and Pudding by Regula Ysewijn that appear to contain the same recipes in as much as both have been index here with 91 recipes.

https://www.eatyourbooks...-and-pudding-the-history for the 2016 edition

and

https://www.eatyourbooks...-and-pudding-the-history for the 2022 one.

They changed the colour of the book from the original red which I have to white.... bit underhand in my opinion..

If that is the only difference then I won't bother getting a second edition.

The recipe indexes are identical because the editions are linked on EYB. We only index one edition then link all others if the content is identical, so the index, member notes, ratings and recipe photos are shared across all editions. If a new edition is revised or expanded we copy over the index and make the necessary changes.

You can tell if the book is a linked one in a few ways. If your edition is linked you will see a links icon at the top after the book title. If you hover over the link a pop-up tells you which is the indexed edition. You can also view all linked editions to the indexed edition by clicking the links icon on that edition listing or view the More details tab on the Book details page where all the linked editions are listed. Here is that page for Pride & Pudding.

What about a case where there is a revised edition with some differences in the recipes? For example https://www.eatyourbooks...essential-new-york-times has more recipes than the first edition https://www.eatyourbooks...essential-new-york-times. It would be a lot to try to compare manually to see where recipes are added or removed.

vglong29 - because those indexes were different we indexed each volume rather than linking them. I'm not sure what you are asking EYB to provide - a list of every difference between different editions of a book? I don't think that is very easy for us to do. However I do have a suggestion if this is something important for you:
1. Add the two books you want to compare to your Bookshelf.
2. In My Bookshelf Recipes select the left View As option under the green search bar (the narrow horizontal lines).
3. Enter the first book title in search.
4. Click Download CSV. Do that for each page of recipes (there are 6 pages for this book, with 250 recipes per page). copy each set of recipes into one spreadsheet. You now have all the recipe titles in a spreadsheet. Most books will have fewer than 250 recipes so will only need one download.
5. Do the same process with the second book. Copy over the recipes from those spreadsheets to the first spreadsheet.
6. You now want to highlight the unique recipe titles. This is a little complex and depends how familiar you are with spreadsheets. This is the explanation of how to do it on the Microsoft site. Or if that is too hard, just do an alpha sort all the recipe titles then scan down looking for titles that are just on one line.

Although this may seem a bit complex, it's going to be much faster than going back and forth between two indexes looking for differences.

Thanks Jane. Thats what I was looking to do. I didn't expect them to be linked since there are differences in the recipes. I was debating whether it would be worth having both editions.

Jane,

That's brilliant, thank you!
