How do I find the recipes I indexed with the EYB Bookmarklet?   Go to last post Go to last unread

This is a bit embarrassing: I have indexed a number of recipes from websites and newspapers but now I don't remember what they are, so I have no way to find them in my online recipes.  All I know is that I was interested enough in cooking them that I spent the time to index them.

Too many tempting recipes on my mind now that EYB has taken over my life (in a good way)! Is there a trick I can use to find the few specific recipes I personally indexed with the bookmarklet?  And from now on I promise to bookmark them after they are indexed!

blintz - not embarrassing at all. One of the big benefits of using EYB is that our failing memories aren't an issue.  I am emailing you a screenshot of our online recipes database that you have added.  In future you can add a bookmark as soon as you bookmarklet the recipe.

I had the same issue, yesterday. I wound up going back to the site I visited, and then went to my bookshelf, then recipes, then found the recipes by using key words. It was alot of work. I'm hoping that a future update can make this process easier. Perhaps an automatic feature could put them in a special folder called online recipes inside the personal recipes folder.

PatriciaAnn - as I suggested to blintz, create a bookmark called something like My online recipes and then every time you add a recipe using the Bookmarklet, add the bookmark (it's on the bottom left of the indexing form).  Then whenever you want to just see the online recipes you added, select that bookmark under Only Show.

Recipes you add using the Bookmarklet are not Personal recipes, as they are part of the Library and available to everyone.  So using Bookmarks is to best way for you to find them quickly.

Hi Jane,

I seem to be doing something wrong. When I am at a website and click on the tab that is on my favorites tool bar that says "Add to "EYB Recipes", all I get is a clicking sound and a little pop-up that is a little red exclamation surrounded by yellow and a red border. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the EYB tab, but I never get a different result. Also, if I visit a blog site and try to send a recipe to EYB, I get the same result. I do not get the screen you fill out with info. Help

Thank You.

PatriciaAnn - I think you may installed the Bookmarklet image not the indexing tool on your bookmarks bar.  We have instructions on how to install the Bookmarklet using Internet Explorer in our Help section. We also demonstate how to install the Bookmarklet on Apple devices and for Google Chrome.  Just make sure you are installing it from the correct place on the Home page - on the right side under Bookmarklet. If you still have issues, email us at [email protected] with details of which browser you are using and we will try to help you.

Related question: I see that I left out two ingredients in an online recipe that I indexed.  How can I correct the ingredients?

ellabee - you can edit any online recipe you have added with the Bookmarklet by going to the details page (clicking the recipe title).  At the top, after the title/author is an edit pencil.  Click that and the data entry form opens up and you can make any changes you want.

There has been a delay in getting new online recipes approved in the last few days since Christine, our Online Content Manager, is moving house.  But everything outstanding should be up in the next day or two.  But I think yours is already approved ellabee since I can't see anything outstanding for you?

Ellabee -- I don't have any online recipes for you at all, is there a chance you were referring to editing a personal recipe? If so, it is basically the same procedure Jane described -- clicking the pencil icon next to the title/author, then making and saving any necessary changes. For personal recipes, the pencil icon is visible on your bookshelf/search results as well as on the specific recipe's details page.

Also, I do proofread all the new online recipes members add, so if you realize you've missed an ingredient after you've submitted the recipe, chances are I will have already seen it and fixed it before it shows up on your bookshelf.

Thanks, Christine and Jane.  My one self-indexed recipe is indeed a personal recipe, but it's also online, and I included the link in the info.  Is there any way of making that shareable with the rest of EYB?  I haven't succeeded in installing the bookmarklet, and am reluctant to given the small number of online recipes I expect to save.

ellabee - I'm sorry to hear you have not been able to install the Bookmarklet.  Could you email us at [email protected] with details of which browser you use and we will try to help you.

You cannot share a personal recipe with the rest of EYB but if you send us the link I will add it using the Bookmarklet, though hopefully we will get you using it yourself soon.

Thanks, Jane -- the recipe is Chicken with fennel; I saw it on a Tyler Florence show years ago and have enjoyed it many times since, with and without chicken.

Re the Bookmarklet, I very much appreciate your offer, but helping me install it (in Firefox) is probably not a worthwhile use of your time. I'm staying away from background apps in general, and rarely want to clip online recipes.

Update: I have successfully installed the Bookmarklet in Firefox (Firefox 'Bookmarks toolbar' = 'Favorites bar'), and indexed an online recipe.  Thanks for the nudge, Jane!

Whoo-hoo!  So pleased you got there in the end. I forgot to post that I had added that Chicken and fennel recipe by Tyler Florence for you.
