Today I made curry udon from Kentaro Kobayashi's Noodle Comfort.  It was spot on.  Although I have some books of his in Japanese I have been interested in his English versions.  He published 5 small cookbooks.  He was in an accident sometime back and is now completely paralized.  The last I heard is that he can now move his toes.  I've never considered him a super cook, but he was very humble and personable that I really enjoyed watching him on tv programs.  I am hoping he makes steady progress so that he can one day enjoy his own foods again.

Thanks for sharing the feedback on the curry udon. Your picture looks oishi-sou! I own Kentaro's books (I just indexed Donburi Mania and am working on Bento Love), but have not cooked from them yet. I was not aware of his accident. I understand his mother, Katsuyo, recently passed away. http://justhungry.com/ka...i-1937-2014  I am just discovering her cookbook, The Quick and Easy Japanese Cookbook, which is being indexed now.

Thank you Sally.  And thank you for indexing those two books.  I completed the Noodle Book and just submitted the Appetizer Rex.

Sad to hear that his mother has passed on too.  I knew she was ill.  Kentaro was in a motor cycle accident with serious injuries which occurred on February 2012.  It was reported too that his memory and speech was not good at that time. Also his mother because of her stroke did not even understand that her son was seriously injured and paralyzed.

Rinshin-san,

It looks like between the two of us, we'll complete indexing Kentaro's collection.  I have a number of Japanese cookbooks I'd like to index next.I look forward to seeing your future reviews.

(Off topic) I was looking through Quick and Easy Donburi Dishes and they have a molohaire donburi (they say molohaire are greens-the leaves look to be the size of bay leaves), that are mixed with natto, soy, karashi and kezuri bushi. Would you happen to know what molohaire would be? Thank you.

hahahah, pretty bad translation there.  It's

Mulukhiyah

I also saw some bad translation in Kentaro's books too.  Instead of beef tongue, it was written down as cow's tongue.

mulukhiyah is sold here too in Japanese markets in the US.  Often used with sticky type of foods.  Touted as healthy greens in Japan.
