So basically if I want a recipe for making pasta rather than recipes that use pasta ie bolognaise or a recipe to make ricotta rather than recipes that use ricotta how do I construct the search?
Thanks!

For homemade ricotta: 1) Enter ricotta in the search box. Filter by Recipe type/Misc./How-to. For homemade pasta, it is a little more complicated, because they do not usually use the "How-to" category. 1) Decide if you want general pasta types or filled pasta (i.e. ravioli, tortellini, etc.). 2) Choose the filter for Recipe type/Pasta, doughs & sauces OR Recipe type/Pasta, filled. 3) Enter "flour" in the search box. (Because if you make the pasta, it must have some type of flour in large quantities. Few pasta sauces contain flour.) If you want to be more specific, you can search "00 flour"; "semolina flour"; etc. You can also the type of pasta you want to make (spaghetti, penne, etc.)

Whenever you want more precise search results you should use the filters on the right (or under the Filter link on a phone). For the pasta search you would apply the filter Recipe type / Dish type / Pasta, doughs and sauces then enter the type of sauce you want to make in the word search. There may be the odd result where the sauce is used in the dish rather than being a recipe for the sauce but most will be for making it. You will also see results where the bolognese sauce is part of another recipe such as lasagne.

This is the search by bolognese of the Library - https://www.eatyourbooks...sta%2c+doughs+%26+sauces You can also search by bolognaise (which is the French spelling of the sauce) but there are a lot fewer results - https://www.eatyourbooks...0sauces&sortsmall=on

For making pasta dough/shapes you add the 'How to' filter under Dish types / Misc. This is that search of the Library - https://www.eatyourbooks...uces&f_cat=How+to...

And finally, when wanting to find how to make an ingredient such as ricotta or yogurt rather than recipes containing those ingredients, apply the How to... filter as above. We only added the How-to tag a few years ago so there are a lot of earlier recipes that don'tyet have the tag added. If you spot any on your own Bookshelf that should have the tag added, please email us and we will add it.

Added - lkgrover and I crossed over. She is quite correct that adding flour to the search gets around the issue of the How to... tag having to yet be added to a lot of fresh pasta recipes.

The problem I have with selecting things from the list in the bottom right of the screen is that I am very much a typist. Started when my boys school did swaps with the girls school next door and I choose typing. (Still remember how to centre a heading with a mechanical typewriter.) Then as a computer operator and programmer back in the days of card punches and paper tape followed by glass teleytpes and even now in these days of GUIs I still prefer to type commands in macOS Terminal sessions than take my hands off the keyboard to pick up a mouse and in consequence distract my eyegaze from where I am working. Whenever I can I touchtype rather than the one-/two-finger stab at the keyboard so prevalent these days. I would love to be able to type ALL my search criteria including NOTs ANDs and ORs straight into the box. Also touchtyping alleviates many of my dyslexia problems because I focus on the text not on the keyboard (or mouse).

Will having to shift my eye gaze stop me using EYB no but it makes me really frustrated because I am forced to do so.
