Anyone here from the 101 Cookbooks Library?   Go to last post Go to last unread

I joined EYB about a year ago in order to search inside my cookbooks, but am also glad to have it now that the 101 Cookbooks Library is no longer really active/functional.  We had a nice little community over there, so if you were posting there before, please say hi!  While copy/pasting some of my notes from there, I noticed at least one person who has migrated to EYB (Hi TrishaCP!)

Welcome Monica - could you post there to alert other members that they might want to try out EYB?  We would love for the Forum to become more active so anything to encourage prolific posters would be appreciated.

I have posted on 101 cookbooks, and agree, it was a very interactive and sweet community.

I enjoyed 101 Cookbooks while it lasted. It had a close community feeling. I used both that site and EYB. Some of us moved to a yahoo group but aren't posting as frequently. Hello to anyone who is here!

What made 101 cookbooks different? What could Jane & Co do to emulate that environment? What specifically do you truly miss?

Hi Monica! Sorry for the delay in responding but I was on vacation. Good to see you here, as I always enjoyed your posts at the library.

Jane, I did post a note on the google group site about checking out EYB. (If anyone wants that link, let me know.)

Debkellie, what I liked about the 101 Cookbooks site was that the members were pretty closely aligned taste-wise, but not so much so that things got boring. As a result, I found lots of new cookbooks and new recipes from my old cookbooks through that site. People would take the time to do some really detailed recipe reviews, which were very helpful.

In terms of functionality and how it compares to EYB, the part that I miss the most is that you could "like" recipe or cookbook reviews and comment or ask questions directly about them. AND, you would receive notifications, so you wouldn't miss anything. Part of the reason that I write notes is for my own recall, but I also do it to help others, so I really liked the interactive features of the library.

And almost forgot....you could also "follow" specific members so that their reviews would end up in your notifications so you wouldn't miss anything....

Hello!

Yes, I was a user of 101 Cookbooks for quite a while as BakingP.

I agree with all of the items that Trisha noted in terms of functionality. I have a few other thoughts that are a little more complicated for a site, but will give you some additional ideas.

--the main page was almost like a facebook wall....it rotated based on what members added to the site. It was mostly by recipe, but sometimes might be a review of an entire cookbook, a question posed (on a variety of topics), a discussion about what we might want to select as our featured cookbook for a month or two (many would then focus on that book and post about recipes for a two month period). I loved the diversity of the recipes I would see and was often inspired to try new ones.

--It was also easy too pull up reviews of cookbooks overall. I often did this when I was considering purchasing a new book. On that same page, you could also then select a recipe and all of the related reviews would come up. Like Trisha, I used these notes for myself, but was also inspired by others.

I do miss everyone!! And would love if folks would join up here! I find this site incredibly helpful, too!

Welcome 101 Cookbooks Library friends.  I was not a member of that site/community but certainly the enthusiasm and passion you've all shown here for that community is inspiring.  It makes me wish I had been a member!

For those of us who don't know, would you mind telling us more about the site?  Was it a cookbook library, a forum, a combination of both?

I have been inspired by Trisha and Vickie to join EYB now that 101 Cookbooks is truly defunct. I liked the community- having a group of home cooks sharing reviews of dishes led me to new books and cuisines. Now that my collection has exploded I look forward to a site that helps me utilize the books that don't always come to mind.

I think a main difference between EYB and 101 Cookbooks is that members were more easily identified and one could make connections and follow someone. As cespitler said, it was kind if like a Facebook wall. I do enjoy the EYB recipe reviews. I think maybe this forum comes closest to creating a connection with certain members.

Maybe there is some way EYB can create that kind of participation? I'm not clever enough to figure out how, but maybe someone can.

Hi! I was an active poster over at 101cookbooks and I miss that community so much (big waves to fellow library members!). I'm doing a trial over here at the suggestion of vickster and Trisha so I only have 2 cookbooks and 3 blogs in my recipe search. I've input many of my recipes into Evernote and love the search feature and categorization that it provides (along with a photo, as I am very visual). I am hoping to reconnect with like-minded foodies and be part of a community again. :D
