Links to blogs with Book Notes? User photos....   Go to last post Go to last unread

Hi

I have just entered a 'Note' against a book. The link is simply a link to my own personal blog where I record all of my cullinary disasters. A few years ago I started tagging them with the book I have cooked out of - and so the link below is a list of what I've cooked/blogged about from one of my favoutite books - Sichuan Cooking by Fuscia Dunlop.

http://shrestaurants.blo...%20-%20Sichuan%20Cookery

So my question is:

When I entered the notes, the link was not coming up as Hyperlinked. See notes against http://www.eatyourbooks....ry/34426/sichuan-cookery

Was that my mistake, or is that by design?

And I suppose following on from this - would anyone else think it would be a good idea to have this a more specific feature. I'm sure plenty of people do blog their own attempts, so having a formal set of links against each recipe would add a bit more depth to the entries. It could even be possible to search the linked blog entries and display the photos within the recipe pages (or is that getting to close to copyright?)

Urbanspoon's "add a photo" is the sort of idea I am thinking of, or even when you add a link to a Facebook post - it goes and gets a thumbname to place next to the link...(most of the time).

Anyway - great site.

Hi Steve - welcome to EYB.  The idea of Notes is that these are reviews by EYB members detailing how they made the dish and reviewing the results.  Reviews are external reviews on blogs (such as yours) and in the press.  We add the reviews where we think they add value for the EYB member.  Though I admit it is very time-consuming and we don't add as many as we would like.  You can see the latest Reviews on the Home page - it is the tab next to Notes.

I have added some of yours for Sichuan Cookery.  I struggled a bit sometimes to find enough of a review in words though the photos were useful for anyone wanting a step-by-step of the preparation.  It would be great if you added a more detailed description of the recipes when you make them to the Notes for a recipe (and also rate them).  This side of the site is really important for members - sharing our knowledge of cookbook recipes makes EYB even more valuable.

From feedback from EYB members, we have decided to combine Notes and Reviews into one tab (called Reviews).  There will then be a Reviews tab in the Library and your Bookshelf so you search and sort Reviews.  This will be happening in the next month.  I'll talk to our developer about adding hyperlinks though as I said external reviews are entered by us.

We are also planning a feature that will allow you to add photos to your reviews.  You can then add some of the photos from your blog to the EYB recipe page.

Hi

Thanks. The key thing i was interested in was that the link I pasted wasn't hyperlinked....Was that out of design?

StevieHolland - I saw your comment on a blog post that you thought you would be notified when there was a reply on this topic.  We don't notify every commenter on a Forum topic but you have the option of asking to be notified.  At the top right of each topic is an Options tab where you can select to watch this topic.

The hyperlink does actually work steve: I've been taken from your post hyperlink (above) to your blog (which tells me I need to fix my Java BTW.. ?glitch on your site? But to ensure hyperlink works : type your text in; highlight the text, click the link tab (3rd from right at top of post bar), enter the hyperlink on teh "new" page that opens and it ought always work (in forum, but not notes!)

And as to deleting post: you ought to be able to edit it .. just clear the text if there's no delete button! The delete button is actually at the top right of the post..next to the quote/edit buttons ;-)

What made you decide to write/photo your cooking exploits via your blog? Just curious !

debkellie - stevieholland's initial question was about trying to insert a hyperlink into a Note, not here on the Forum.
