I'm a big fan of Indian cooking (cooking it for 40 yrs & I now have a son-in-law from India,) I was very surprised that tumeric is not anywhere in your ingredient list.

Please add ground tumeric and fresh tumeric to your pull down list of ingredients.

Thank you.

The ingredient list reflects turmeric and fresh turmeric already.

Consistency would be nice though: we have ground XXX YYY and ZZZ in the EYB spice kingdom, but no ground turmeric or ground nutmeg... it takes a while for new indexerrs to work out what is and isn't in the list and often it seems more serendipity than direction that leads to the right ingredient being found!! And they (authors)  keep expanding the ingredients as they devise new and exciting things for us to make!

As I understand it, nutmeg and turmeric are default ground, as it would be an unusual recipe to call for whole nutmeg or dried turmeric root. Whole nutmeg, dried turmeric roots, and fresh turmeric are ingredient options.

As Avocet pointed out, the most commonly used forms of turmeric and nutmeg are ground which is (I believe) why they are not listed in the ingredients list with the "ground" specification.

Going back to the original question though, if you are having trouble finding it in the ingredient list Purrceyz, I think the problem is that you have left out the "r" -- if you type in turmeric, you should be able to find both "turmeric" and "fresh turmeric" as well as a few other varieties depending on what the recipe is calling for.

Thank you for the reply, I should have checked my spelling. I have seen fresh tumeric sold in Indian grocery stores, it resembles ginger - glad it's in the list.

gosh i'm so glad to see someone else spells turmeric - tumeric.  i think the 'r' just got inserted recently and much to my chagrin!!!   :)

Most of the Indian cooking blogs I frequent use the speling tumeric (where the recipe in question came from) although often it's just haldi (Hindi for tumeric.)

They had some beautiful fresh turmeric root at my Whole Foods today- planning on making Souther Thai Turmeric chicken (or probably pork) from the blog SheSimmers.

Purrceyz, I've just added the 'tumeric' variant spelling to both 'turmeric' and 'fresh turmeric'.
