I got one - Bobby Flay's Throwdown!  It's not something I'd have picked for myself, but after browsing through it, there are some things from the challenges that I'm going to try.  Bobby's take on Arroz con Pollo looks good - and will fit right in to a Caribbean cooking challenge I'm participating in.

What new cookbooks were you lucky enough to be gifted with?

I got a number of new cookbooks.

One Big Table

Harvest To Heat

In the Kitchen with a Good Appetite

At Home with Madhur Jaffrey

I'm still in the reading and admiring phase and haven't planned any new dishes yet.

I got Harold McGee's On cooking and India: the cookbook by pushpesh Pant. On cooking looks really interesting, altough it's not really a cookbook of course.

I bought McGee's On Food and Cooking for my husband just so I could read it! Also Nick Malgieri's How to Bake because for some reason we didn't already have it...maybe something I "deaccessioned" to clear my shelves in the old pre-EYB days?

I gifted myself with Dorie Greenspan's 'Around My French Table.'  Oh my.  Why did I wait so long?

Oh, I so hoped for that one!  But I'll be happy with Bobby Flay until I can justifiy buying another for myself.  (Just as soon as I can find a job).

I keep McGee on my nightstand - it's bedtime reading!

I gave my 17 year old, college bound son "Mad Hungry, feeding men and boys" by Lucinda Scala Quinn for Christmas. Two days later he sends me on an errand, right as I was to cook pan fried steak from his book. I left him with the steak and the book and went for his errand. He made a great steak. Soon he is going to make the hanger steak recipe that he found while browsing the rest of the book. My husband and I sure look forward to that dinner.
