I love this cookbook. A couple friends and I had a little fun with it and we each had a random recipe to make. Mine was "Favorite Cottage Cheese Pie". I really couldn't imagine how this would turn out. It was delicious!

There is a supplement to this cookbook Avanelle Day's Herb & Spice Sampler Cookbook. My copy has no ISBN.

I love this book so much, with its quaint illustrations and notes, that every time I find a copy, I buy it for someone new. One of my first cookbooks, and still one of my favorites. Pie crust recipe and pumpkin pie recipe are wonderful.

This book appears in a print Book-of-the-Month-Club advertisement from 1969, with four other cookbooks described as "indispensable": Joy of Cooking (5th ed.), Mastering the Art of French Cooking, The New York Times Cookbook, and Larousse Gastronomique. For $10 a customer could have them all (list price for the five was $60. at the time). The Spice Cookbook doesn't appear to have caught on or held up as well as most of the others offered, but with 1400 recipes is their equal in size and scope.
