After my first dish from the original Patsy's book was an epic fail i thought I'd have a look through this one to see how it looks. I've looked at four recipes so far and two have issues. The Shrimp Casino recipe doesn't specify whether the bacon should be raw or cooked. I would typically assume it to be raw unless otherwise specified however in this case they have you place it in the blender with cooked onion and jarred peppers to make a sauce. The sauce isn't cooked but for 3.5 mins it spends under the broiler spooned atop the shrimp. The other recipe with issues is Chicken Breast with Prosciutto, Mushrooms and Capers where they have you place flour and eggs on plates beside the stove but fail to mention what to do with them. Presumably it's for the chicken but they instruct you to fry it without any mention of dipping it. Very disappointing start, I regret this purchase already.

Publishers Text

Patsy's Restaurant, so famous for its classic Neapolitan Italian food that Frank Sinatra used to fly his favorite dishes from its kitchen to his gigs, has had three chefs since it was founded in 1944: Patsy, his son Joe, and his grandson Sal Scognamillo. The three passed down family recipes, invented great new twists on beloved classics, and emphasized giving their diners--many of them celebrities--exactly what they wanted to eat. "Patsy's Italian Family Cookbook" features recipes we really want to eat--and can easily make at home, including:
  • Meatballs!
  • Pasta with Lentils
  • Penne alla Vodka with Shrimp
  • Pork Scaloppine alla Vodka
  • Chicken Pizzaola
  • Chicken Liver Cacciatore
  • Bass Puttanesca
  • Stuffed Veal Chop
  • Patsy's Famous Onion Relish
  • Stuffed Zeppole
  • Tiramisu
  • Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake
A big, warm, beautiful Italian cookbook with full color throughout, "Patsy's Italian Family Cookbook" is a great book for those who know the restaurant, and the nationally distributed sauce and pasta line, but also for those who love classic Italian.
