Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Very best chocolate chip cookies

    • mrshalf on November 01, 2017

Sounds silly but these really were the best chocolate chip cookies. I don't know what's so special about them but two people eating them besides myself said they were the best ever.

    • smartie101 on September 15, 2025

Yes! These are what I have been looking for since ....forever. I just dropped the batter the easy way and they were fine. His way is probably even better but the ones I baked were perfect.

  • Curiously chewy oatmeal-raisin cookies

    • mrshalf on November 01, 2017

      LOOOOOOOOOOve these!

  • Peanut butter pinnacle cookies

    • okmosa on January 07, 2017

These cookies came out dry for me. I used 'natural' peanut butter and substituted 1 whole egg for the 2 yolks (which I've been known to do) but don't think that would have made them dry.

  • Molasses spice cookies

    • mrshalf on November 01, 2017

One of my daughter's friends commented that molasses cookies were his favorite. Made them and were a hit with everyone.

  • Everyday chocolate cake

    • jocelyn_cpgnoq on March 17, 2026

I’ve made this cake for my husband’s birthday for the last 3 years. He LOVES chocolate and he LOVES this cake. BEGINNERS learn from my mistake: if you are going to make it a multi layer cake do not multiply the recipe and mix it all together. Make each batch with the measurements the recipe says and bake the layers. It was far too chocolatey (although everyone said it tasted fine).

  • Yellow birthday cake

    • mrshalf on November 01, 2017

Was a great birthday cake for my daughter!

  • Water ganache

    • mrshalf on November 01, 2017

      Super easy!!!!!!!!

  • Dulce de leche

    • swegener on January 29, 2015

I made this and it is quite delicious--it made a lot more than I thought, or I should say a little goes a long way! Very easy, and no fail.

Publishers Text

Kamran Siddiqi, the self-taught baker and talented young blogger behind the Sophisticated Gourmet, delivers simple yet sophisticated recipes in his first book, a collection of more than 75 of his favourite homemade sweets. Designed to entice new bakers with his infectious passion for baking (and sugar in all its glorious forms), the pages are filled with classic favourites like Cream Scones and Chocolate Cake as well as lesser-known indulgences such as Chocolate Brown Sugar Pavlova and Pistachio Polvorones. Kamran also believes in baking as a form of therapy, which comes through in such soothing balms as his Heartbreak Chocolate Truffle Cookies. With glorious photographs of each and every treat, Hand Made Baking is perfect for aspiring home cooks with an eye for the elevated taste and beauty of all things hand made.
