The translation of the classic pre-revolutionary Russian cookbook. If you want to know how the middle and upper classes ate in Czarist Russia, this cookbook is invaluable! Recipes, household hints, etc. A superb glimpse into a vanished past, although many of these recipes survived among Russian exiles and are being revived in post-Soviet Russia!

Publishers Text

Classic Russian Cooking is Elena Molokhovets' exceptional A Gift to Young Housewives. The original version, first published at the end of the XIXth century, would be considered The Joy of Cooking of pre-Communist Russia. It was to help young middle-class housewives with a wide range of issues from hiring servants to shopping for the house. The recipes are a wonderful part of this encyclopedia on running a home.
