This is an extensively revised version of her original "the salad garden" published in 1984 i.e. a third of a century ago. Only 10 pages are dedicated to actually making salads (4 general, 6 recipes). The remainder of the book tells you how to grow and when to harvest the plants of a salad garden. I find the book useful for providing guidelines for the seasonality of the produce and identifying unfamiliar produce to seek out in the farmer's market or ethnic store.
