I'm not really sure how to know these recipes are 'authentic Chicago' recipes. There is no commentary from the author as to how the recipes relate to Chicago. There are also no pictures of any of the recipes. I question the authenticity of some of the recipes as they seemed quite generic. For example, the Chicago Mac N Cheese calls for 2 boxes of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. I get that the recipes are supposed to be simple...but that's really a stretch to say an authentic Chicago recipe relies on boxed mac and cheese. The Chicago Style Pesto Penne calls for Tyson grilled chicken strips? The one that really through me for a loop is the Chicago Hot Dog salad which had a list of ingredients that one would put on a hot dog but also canned tuna! Here is where the author's commentary would have been helpful because I'm left with not knowing if this is truly a Chicago thing or a mistake. I only found 3 recipes that I would consider making: the vegetarian chili, sloppy joes and the skirt steak.
