Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Nutty muhammara

    • sanfrannative on April 02, 2025

I love this muhammarra recipe because it's less bread-y and carby than some others.

  • Green angel

    • mindyb on January 12, 2025

This was great- didn’t follow exactly but close enough. Probably would reduce raw garlic next time.

  • Plain labneh

    • antimony on May 28, 2025

This bordered on too salty—perhaps it’s just variation in how salty the yogurt I started with was, but I’ll drop the salt by 1/4 the next time. But very straightforward and tasty. (And yes, I used diamond crystal kosher salt, I didn’t use something saltier by volume.)

  • Beiruti balila

    • patty_l5k27z on June 03, 2026

Loved it! Great as a garnish, side dish or light meal main dish

  • The mother tahini

    • shapije1 on March 09, 2026

During weekly meal prep, I make little jars of this tahini dressing with the suggested variations. The dressings are great for tossing roasted vegetables or salad greens when you need a quick meal.

  • Butternut squash kale salad

    • shapije1 on March 02, 2026

This is a hearty dish that fits nicely into an autumn or winter menu. Opted for the cilantro lime tahini dressing to brighten up the strong earthy elements of this salad. Also needed to omit the pomegranate seeds, which I don’t think had a negative impact overall (as the butternut squash + date molasses already made the dish quite sweet).

  • Spicy roasted garlic & tomato soup

    • antimony on May 28, 2025

Very good; I used diced canned tomatoes instead of whole because I had them, and pulled out some of it before puréeing to use as the tomato sauce in another recipe, which worked great.

  • Za'atar chicken thighs

    • lorie_4xai21 on June 02, 2026

Super delicious and easy! Extremely juicy and flavourful and will be a staple on our rotation

  • Herby falafel

    • antimony on May 28, 2025

This was stellar—all the herbs helped keep the falafel moist inside despite baking rather than frying (it has instructions for both), and they’re hearty without being dense bricks.

  • Lubiyeh bi zeit

    • antimony on May 28, 2025

Simple, tasty. Used the roasted garlic tomato soup from the same book as the tomato sauce.

  • Riz a djej

    • chelsea_ina6wj on April 15, 2026

This was way too salty. Maybe I use a different brand of kosher than the author (I use Morton’s kosher), or maybe it should have said 2 tsp instead of 2 Tbsp. Had to throw out leftovers.

  • Lemony rosewater cake

    • lauren_4w5d7n on March 20, 2026

Only 3 stars bc I don’t like rose but the lemon cake flavor was good

Publishers Text

From the beloved chef and owner of Edy’s Grocer, a deeply personal celebration of Lebanese flavors adopted for the modern home cook.

Born in a small fishing village in Lebanon, Edy Massih grew up eating and cooking alongside his Teitas (grandmothers), Odette and Jacquo, who taught him the secrets to preparing delicious Lebanese food, including how to roll labneh balls and bind homemade kibbeh by hand. When Edy moved to the United States with his family at age ten, cooking soon became his solace, and from eighteen onward, Edy steadily built his career as a chef and caterer, specializing in these dishes and many others from his native land. Then Covid-19 struck, and Edy’s dreams, like those of many other culinary professionals, were nearly derailed by the pandemic. But when his adopted Teita Maria decided to retire ownership of her beloved neighborhood deli, Edy knew what he had to do. In only a few short months, the new sign, Edy’s Grocer, went up, and the Lemony Corner of Brooklyn was born.

In Keep It Zesty, Edy shares his personal story as well as more than 115 easy-to-follow recipes for some of his favorite dishes—traditional Lebanese fare with a modern twist. Infused with the zest and positivity he brings to everyday life, Keep It Zesty offers everything adventurous home cooks need to whip up delicious weeknight meals and entertain friends. Edy shows you how to build your own Brown Paper Board (the supersize charcuterie board of your dreams), alongside recipes for mouthwatering starters such as Orangey Date Carrot Dip and Spicy Fig Jam; showstopping breakfasts such as Rosewater Raspberry Dutch Baby and Tomato Halloumi Skillet; Za’atar Chicken Thighs and Everything Sumac Salmon with Sweetie Tahini Eggplant; Pistachio-Crusted Lamb Chops and Shawarma Chicken Taco Night to wow even the most demanding guests; and sweets and drinks, from Pistachio Halva Rice Krispies to Jallab Rosey Iced Tea. Plus, you’ll find easy tips and tricks from a one-man catering (and grocer-owning) powerhouse. In addition to his amazing dishes, Edy includes helpful recipe charts for easy customization—accompanied by odes to Middle Eastern pantry staples, more than 100 truly stunning photographs of food and lovingly preserved family pictures, and heartwarming essays dedicated to the women who shaped him along the way.
