Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Cavolo nero rigatoni

    • Tessvssr on January 03, 2026

Not unpleasant but we thought it was quite bland. Also needed an extra texture in my opinion (will add pine nuts next time) but that is personal preference.

  • Dover sole en papillote

    • andy_zcd23f on May 18, 2026

I followed the recipe except that I used foil instead of parchment paper. I turned out great!

  • Treviso, pecorino, clementine and walnut [salad]

    • ALawson25 on February 09, 2026

Thought this was alright but not amazing, I've had better chicory salads (Nigella's one is tastier I think)

  • Artichoke pasta

    • ALawson25 on February 09, 2026

This was delicious, even with shop bought pasta and chicken stock. Would definitely make again, this was relatively simple (the most faff was grating the parmesan) and so yummy.

  • Chicken burger

    • pensky on June 01, 2026

Very crunchy batter. I wouldn’t make a habit of these as they are highly calorific but delicious with the sauces.

  • Roast chicken, butter beans, salsa verde

    • ALawson25 on February 16, 2026

This was great, although the method of cooking the chicken didn't work for me. Followed exactly but after resting it was undercooked in the centre for a large chicken, so would give it a bit longer in the oven next time. But the beans and salsa verde were fantastic and would make again with modifications to the chicken cooking times.

  • Pork chops with plums

    • ALawson25 on April 12, 2026

This was good, but my pork chops took less time to cook than in the recipe (clearly they were a lot smaller) and so I ended up with them overcooked. I would keep a closer eye next time and go by meat thermometer rather than timings in the recipe. The plums were very nice. Overall it was a nice dish but not amazing.

Publishers Text

Delicious, restaurant-quality recipes from Chef Thomas Straker's kitchen.

Tom's uncomplicated, honest cooking makes the most of seasonal ingredients. Filled with incredibly tasty dishes, essential techniques and an appreciation of quality products and sustainable sourcing, his first book is a celebration of food to be enjoyed at home.

It is for anyone who loves great food cooked with joy, and who wants to learn more about the ingredients they cook with, how to source quality produce and the stories behind some of the country's top suppliers.

Cover to cover, this book is filled with food you want to eat.

From the author: Food You Want to Eat is a project that has totally consumed me, fuelled primarily by my love for great food. The recipes in this book reflect my passion for incredible produce, cooked simply with an Italian flair. I believe that the food I have been cooking for myself, my family and friends is super accessible and, most importantly, delicious. I am excited to share what I have learnt throughout my career and impart my knowledge of food (without you having to spend over a decade in basement kitchens!).

My journey through working in professional kitchens and growing up on a small holding has led me to a point in my career where I fully understand what it is to cook the food I want to eat, without being distracted by fads or trends.
