Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Rice-A-Roni salad

    • chawkins on November 19, 2023

A lot of chopping but quite nice. I use the low sodium rice-a-roni.

  • Sugar snap peas with bacon dressing

    • MarciK on June 26, 2024

I picked up sugar snap peas from the farmer’s market and a sirloin tip roast. This was a perfect recipe for the side to the roast beef. Delicious, easy to make. You can make ahead and reheat as well.

  • Hummingbird cake

    • latasha_m7d1xo on May 12, 2026

This is a super moist cake. So much so, my top layer broke in half. You may want to chill the cake layers before frosting to prevent it from breaking like mine did. Also, the frosting amount was not a lot. Next time, I’m going to double the frosting amount to ensure the entire cake is well frosted. Other than that, it is a yummy cake that I will definitely make again!

Publishers Text

In the Carolina low country, it's all about the crab and rice. Along the Georgia coast, it's fish and shrimp. Crayfish in the Bayou of Louisiana. Cured ham in Kentucky and Virginia. Red-eye gravy in Tennessee. And it's fried chicken and okra anywhere below the Mason-Dixon line.

From the women in antebellum attire to the rocking chairs on the front porch, the Blue Willow Inn Restaurant embodies Southern hospitality. Owners Louis and Billie Van Dyke, who named their restaurant for the charming china pattern its meals are presented on, are dedicated to serving authentic Southern dishes, prepared in the same manner in which they have been prepared for generations--with a few special touches belonging only to us.
